At the beginning of the 20th century, the Beaujolais area was more popular and the wines were often a lot more expensive than in the  Burgundy region...or even in Bordeaux. The successful entrepreneur Julien Damoy therefore bought this domaine in 1911 and expanded it. At the same time, he also acquired almost half of the Grand Cru appellations Chapelle-Chambertin and Clos-de-Bèze in Burgundy, likely at a lower price. Today you pay almost CHF 1,000 per bottle for a bottle of Clos-de-Bèze from its successor Pierre Damoy. Ou la la ...!
The reputation of this wine area was seriously negatively impacted in the 2nd half of the 20th century. Cheap "Beaujolais Nouveau" wines flooded the market for a few Euros or Dollars per bottle. The venerable Beaujolais “Grand Cru” wineries were, however, recently rediscovered and restored to their old glory. In 2009, the Parinet family of entrepreneurs acquired the estate from the heirs Damoy. The son Édouard Parinet and his business partner Brice Laffond and team now run the estate with a lot of passion. After this handover, the Château now make excellent wines. Somewhat casually spoken, the wines are a mixture between a Bordeaux and bottle of a Bourgogne. Highly aromatic and profound, but with very balanced tannins. And the price is still much lower than comparable Bordeauxs or Burgundies. Buy them as long and fast as you can. Les Cavistes makes it possible. Fortunately, we also managed to buy a few older vintages. The 2015 are excellent and ready for drinking. You have to ideally store the 2022 vintage a bit....but they are drinkable now already....in case you are in a hurry.
